Toward an Anthology of Japanese Presence in Mindanao, Philippines: A Writing Workshop among Japan and Southeast Asian Scholars

The webinar series-writing workshop aims to contribute to the fulfillment of the objectives of Japan Foundation’s Asia Center Local Grant Program: Enhancing and Encouraging People-to-People Exchange in Asia. This online writing hub is the first stage towards an edited collection of studies on Japan in Mindanao. The chapter contributors, and reviewers come from Mindanao, Manila, Japan, and the US, with diverse provenance and disciplinal expertise was bridged through a series of virtual workshop gatherings via Zoom.

The workshop was launched on August 4, 2020. This event was graced by the presence of Consul General Yoshiaki Miwa of the Consulate General of Japan in Davao and then Japan Foundation – Manila director, UESUGI Hiroaki. 

There were five workshop sessions which substantially covered discussions and comments from the reviewers and participants. In each session, contributors present their papers for 15 minutes and are commented upon by the designated reviewer. The manuscripts were sent in advance to the reviewers and written comments were also given to the authors after sessions. The final session also served as the closing event which was graced by JF – Manila’s new director, SUZUKI Ben.
